WHO'S WATCHING THE DOGS?!
Welcome to The Barn’s first ever blog post! From time to time, we’ll be featuring couple’s stories here to give readers a sense of what we’re all about at The Barn at Back Acres Farm—and hopefully provide inspiration for future weddings! Today, we’re getting a peak into the story of Melissa & Clay (as told by Clay).
Tell us about the proposal
Melissa was on a work trip to Toronto, and I secretly coordinated with one of her coworkers to propose there. Because it was in a completely different country, I assumed she wouldn't be expecting it. So I booked a last-minute flight and landed a few hours before the proposal. I had her coworker drag her to the Distillery District in Toronto and meet me in front of this big red heart sculpture. As she was taking pictures in front of the heart, I walked up and popped the question. She was COMPLETELY surprised and her first question to me was "who is watching the dogs" — then she said "yes.”
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
Rustic and fun with a mix of American and Mexican influences
What moment are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
I’m most looking forward to seeing her walk down the aisle. I feel like I'm going to remember that moment and when I say "I do" —and the rest might be a blur.
Why did you choose The Barn at Back Acres Farm?
We love the outdoors, and we were looking for something that would be rustic but nice and fit all our family and friends. And also wanted something that wasn't crazy expensive. The Barn fit the bill perfectly.
Do you have any advice for future couples?
Try to enjoy the wedding planning process. It is very stressful overall and you get a lot of pressure and suggestions from friends and family, but do what is going to make you happy. Also, all friends and family will not be able to make it, but remember this is your special day— you only want people there who want to be there.
